The glass used in this floor lamp, like Lothar Klute’s glass panels, was freely shaped while still hot.
Using a specific bronze alloy, artist Lothar Klute was able to forge the bronze. The glass was produced using a specific melting process and specially adapted for the lamp.

“The glass objects are placed in the annealing oven at 550 degrees and cooled over a period of up to 14 days to relieve the internal stresses in the glass. Only then can it be determined whether the casting was successful. All traces of the manufacturing process — such as inclusions, matte spots, bubbles, and streaks — are an authentic expression of traditional craftsmanship. Free-form glass casting ensures an appealing look and feel.”
 
In general, it can be said that all of Lothar Klute’s pieces are one-of-a-kind. While most of his furnishings come in several variations, unlike a cast bronze object — which is always produced identically from a mold — Lothar Klute’s individual pieces differ due to the artisanal process of forging and are therefore unique works of art. Lothar Klute’s studio employed about five people, and as a result, only a few pieces were created over the years.
