Extraordinary, early anthroposophical seating group from the property of Dirk Jan Metz

1,00

Year

The ensemble includes two armchairs and a slightly curved sofa, also with armrests.

The furniture was last located in Haarlem in the house of Dirk Jan Metz, three of the photographs show the seating group in his house.

According to information from his grandson, Mr. Metz was the initiator of the foundation of the first “Freien Schule” in Haarlem together with Dr. Westra.

This is how the anthroposophical schools in Holland were named at Rudolf Steiner’s wishes.
It has not yet been possible to finally find out who designed this seating group.

Although there are certain references to the works of Siegfried Pütz, the design could not be clearly identified.

It was most likely created in the 1930s.

The original upholstery was covered with the current fabric in the 1960s, but in one of the armchairs the original fabric can still be seen underneath.
